Noohiri Diving & Water Sports is the home of the Feridhoo Coral Restoration Project. It focuses on restoring the surrounding coral reefs of the local island of Feridhoo, in North Ari Atoll. It assesses reef health, selects donor colonies, and monitors the growth of coral fragments in artificial nurseries. When coral fragments are big and healthy enough, they are subsequently replanted in damaged areas. The project is supported by the University of Padova, Italy and offers internships and practical programs for hands-on involvement in coral restoration. Its work addresses the threat to Maldivian coral reefs, which constitute a significant portion of the world’s coral surface but are at risk due to various factors.
